Free Agent Rumor - Baseball Wiretap
Mets Could Target Street, Lidge
The Mets need bullpen help and some candidates are beginning to emerge.
The team has begun to pursue Padres reliever Huston Street as well as free-agent Brad Lidge, according to sources.
Lidge Undecided On Pitching In 2012
Brad Lidge, released by the Nationals earlier this week, said he has yet to decide if he will try to come back and pitch for another team in 2012.
Lidge, 35, signed a $1 million contract with Washington in January.
He went 0-1 with a 9.64 ERA in 11 appearances with the Nationals.
"I am healthy," Lidge said, "but based on the path I would have to take to get back to the bigs this year, I am not sure I will be jumping back in right now. No official decision one way or another, but mostly I am not happy that I rushed back from surgery before I was ready only to be designated for assignment a couple of days later."
Blue Jays Still Looking Like Buyers
The Blue Jays have given little indication that they will look to trade potential free agents Edwin Encarnacion and Kelly Johnson.
Toronto continues to maintain a buyer's stance, sending multiple scouts to at least two recent starts by Wandy Rodriguez and maintaining contact with the Cubs about right-hander Matt Garza, according to major-league sources.

Hamels Headed For Free Agency?
At this point, it appears to be almost certain that Cole Hamels will hit the free agent market after the season.
The left-hander wants a huge contract and the Phillies have a number of expensive contracts on their payroll.
They have $290 million committed to players age 31 and older.
Philadelphia also has to consider potential extensions for Hunter Pence and Carlos Ruiz, as well as the status of free-agent-to-be Shane Victorino.
Orioles Release Jamie Moyer
The Orioles have released Jamie Moyer at the left-hander's request.
The 49-year-old had the option to get out of his contract if his contract wasn't selected from Triple-A.
He has a 1.69 ERA with a 16K/0BB ratio in three starts for Triple-A Norfolk after being released by Colorado.
Shapiro: Manny Unlikely To Return To Cleveland
Indians president Mark Shapiro says now is the time to go for the Division title, and the team is looking for ways to strengthen the first-place club.
Shapiro says GM Chris Antonetti will be heavily involved in trade talks before the July 31 deadline. But he says a Manny Ramirez return is unlikely.
"Chances of that are not real good," Shapiro said of the 40-year-old Ramirez, released by Oakland on June 15.
Owner Will Decide Whether Brewers Buy Or Sell
Those within the Brewers organization are telling others that owner Mark Attanasio will decide whether the team buys or sells prior to the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline.
Zack Greinke, who could become a free agent, is reportedly least likely to be moved.
Padres Could Build Around Quentin
Many expect the Padres to trade Carlos Quentin, but the team is in such a fluid position that no assumption is safe.
Quentin is a potential free agent, but San Diego still could take their chances and keep the outfielder, knowing that signing him would not be out of the question even if their payroll stayed in the $55 million range next season.
